FEMA's Elevation Certificate has been revised and must be used effective October 1, 2000. Some companies requesting elevation information are currently using them.
Elevation certificates serve multiple purposes including compliance with federal and local floodplain management regulations, support for Letters Of Map Change (LOMC) applications, flood insurance premium rating, flood damage vulnerability etc. The new forms require a multitude of additional information and surveyors and/or local municipalities completing them should be aware of the ramifications of the answers provided. An in depth understanding of floodplain management and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is strongly recommended.
