FEMA has several appeals processes which can remove a property and/or structure from the federally designated Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). Three of the most important include:
Letters of Map Amendment (LOMA): Removes a property or portion of a property and/or structure from the floodplain including the mandatory flood insurance purchase requirement. This appeal has saved our clients over $1000s in unnecessary flood insurance premiums.
Letters of Map Revision/Fill (LOMR/F): Removes a structure that has been elevated on fill. The mandatory flood insurance purchase requirement is also removed.
Letters of Map Revision (LOMR): Removes a property and/or structure from the floodplain including the mandatory flood insurance purchase requirement. May also be used to incorporate project impacts on floodplain mapping.
